Cutting Board Maintenance & Care

To care for a wooden cutting board, wash it with warm soapy water after each use, dry it thoroughly, and oil it regularly with food-grade mineral oil to prevent warping, cracking, and drying out.

Cleaning:

  • Wash thoroughly:
After each use, wash the cutting board with warm, soapy water.

  • Dry immediately:
Thoroughly dry the board, standing it upright to prevent warping and cracking.

  • Avoid soaking:
Never soak a wooden cutting board in water, as this can cause it to warp or crack.

  • Avoid the dishwasher:
Wooden cutting boards are NOT dishwasher-safe; the heat and moisture can damage the wood.

  • To remove food odors, scrub with salted lemon or use vinegar.

Oiling:

  • Regularly oil:

Apply food-grade mineral oil to the board to nourish the wood and prevent it from drying out. Do NOT use cooking oil.

  • Frequency:

Oil the board every few weeks, or more often if it's used daily.

  • Application:

Apply a generous amount of oil and rub it into the board with a cloth or paper towel.

  • Let it absorb:

Allow the oil to fully absorb into the wood before using the board again.
